Mac and PC compatible
An easy way to
add safe high speed storage to your
mobile computer
for video, audio and photo libraries.

Vista & Linux
|
This card allows you to mount up to 10 drives at once on your
Powerbook or Laptop computer when used in conjunction with our line of Burly
Port Multiplier Enclosures. By using the Hot Swap function
with these enclosures you can have unlimited libraries quickly at hand. Attaching
drives in this manner you can easily share them back and forth between your
mobile computer and a desktop machine for ease of data transfer or archiving
purposes. For example, capture video or photos on your Powerbook to a portable
enclosure then swap those drives into a desktop enclosure for editing on your
workstation. Software RAIDs may be created via Disk Utility (Mac) or Disk
Management (PC) for redundancy or performance gains. You may also direct connect
these two ports to a single
bay or two
bay SATA Enclosure for a more mobile solution.

This host card has eSATA Ports:
eSATA, an external connection method for the SATA specification, is used
on this card. More robust and better grounded, these connectors are the choice
for external connected storage. Be aware though, confusion is also going to
be common as the eSATA connectors are VERY similar in appearance to the older
SATA Type A connectors. Use of an eSATA to eSATA external cable is currently
needed to connect to the MacGurus Burly Enclosure. Be sure to select eSATA
cables when ordering a companion Burly to go with your Lycom host card.
NOTE: This card is not bootable.
Note: Mac users
must download a driver available
here for the card to be recognized. Download driver
version 2.0.3. Once the card has been physically installed, unzip
the file and run the Sil3124 Mac OS X installer. Verify that the card is
recognized by
System Profiler in the "Hardware/PCI Cards" location. It will be
seen as "pci1095,3124". Attach the drive enclosure and power it
up. Your drives should be available in Disk Utility to be Formatted, Zeroed
Out and renamed. You may also create a software RAID 0 (Striped) or RAID 1
(Mirrored) array in Disk Utility.
