IcyDock Firewire/USB2 Hotswap Enclosure
Tray Mounted SATA Drives
Firewire 800 Speed
Tiny size -
7.5 in. x 5.5 in. x 1.25 in.
Firewire 800, USB 2.0
Firewire 400 with optional cable
A really nice looking and tough built Firewire enclosure for SATA
drives. Made mostly of aluminum, with your choice of a really beautiful black
or white finish on it. These little enclosures
are a great solution to your storage needs.
Cooling:
Totally silent, no noisy fans. This enclosure was designed to
use the aluminum's heat transferance capability. In my testing, 4 straight
hours of heavy data transfers with an installed 10,000 rpm
Raptor drive - the enclosure maintained drive temperature below 110ƒ.
The hottest portion, the fluid dynamic bearing area of the drive, was at 107ƒ.
That is well within the most optimal temperature range for today's hard drives.
From a fanless case that is superb!
(testing by Rick Stephens)
Tray Mounted Drives:
The enclosure uses the same skeleton trays as the Burly
6 Bay Port Multiplier Enclosure. The drives and trays can be freely swapped
back and forth between the PM Enclosure and the Firewire enclosure. Great for
field use in the Firewire enclosure and studio use slid into the Burly tower.
A very solidly designed hotswap tray system that positively engages and holds
the drives tightly in place. This is one of the better latch systems
we have seen.
Spare trays available below.
Firewire 400:
You can attach this enclosure to any USB or Firewire equipped computer
or laptop. If your computer only has Firewire 400, no worries. With the addition
of the optional Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 cable
you can hook up and be completely compatible with any Firewire 400 computer. Performance is
typically better than the usual Firewire 400 enclosure, the faster Firewire 800 chipset gives benefits even on
Firewire 400 buses.
